Below is the exact 8-step local SEO plan we've run for a CPR trainer, a wills-and-trusts attorney, a dentist, a therapist, an interior design firm, a career coach, and other Triangle small businesses. Different industries, same formula. You can hire us to run it for you, or you can scroll down and follow the list.
Here is the exact plan I would run to rank a small business locally. Whether you are launching from scratch or already established and wondering what you missed, these are the eight things that actually make a difference. Most businesses never fully do half of them. That gap is why the plan works.
Twenty years ago this was only about ranking on Google. Today you also have to show up in AI answers: ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google's own AI summaries. This plan sets you up for both, because they reward the same thing: real, specific, local content.
For a small business, the website is your storefront. Every service or product you offer needs its own page, written like a mini landing page for someone searching for that exact thing. One clear H1, a real page title, real photos of your actual work, and content that answers the question the searcher came with.
Then add those same services into your Google Business Profile as Services or Products, linked back to the pages you built. That link between your site and your GBP gives Google a stronger signal about what you actually do, and it is a real SEO boost most small businesses miss. If your services page is a bulleted list under one big "Services" heading, you are leaving most of your ranking potential on the table.
Every field filled in: hours, categories, services, description, real photos, short videos. Then kept active with regular posts.
For a local business the profile often outranks the website. It feeds the "near me" results and AI answers pull from it directly. We set it up right, keep it current, and hand you the posting cadence. Fresh photos from your actual business are on you.
Claim and fill out a listing on every platform that will have you:
Same name, same address, same phone on every one. Consistency across listings tells Google you are a real, established local business, and each one is another place a customer or an AI chat can find you.
Beyond your standard service pages, write the ones aimed at a very specific customer. A therapist near a college writes about first-time therapy for anxious students. A wills-and-trusts attorney writes about setting up a trust after a first baby. An interior designer writes about downsizing after the kids leave.
These are the pages that rank for the long-tail searches your competitors do not touch, and they are what AI chats quote when someone asks ChatGPT for a local business that handles a specific need. Almost nobody does them. This is where we spend real time with clients.
Join your town's Chamber, then at least two nearby towns' Chambers, and fill out the member listing on each of their sites. The Apex Chamber runs about $330 a year. Most Chambers throw in a ribbon cutting when you open.
A Chamber link is a local backlink from a site Google actually trusts. Easiest step on this list. Most businesses never do it.
Set a yearly sponsorship budget and spend all of it locally:
Anywhere that puts your logo and a link on a local .org or .edu page. Those are backlinks Google trusts and neighbors who now know your name. Look for "link and logo" as a listed benefit. We help clients find the ones worth chasing.
Have a written process for getting reviews. They are half the local ranking game and almost nobody has a real system.
We use LeaveAReview.net to make a QR code the customer scans to leave a rating in seconds. When it fits, snap a photo of the customer with the work you did on their phone, so the review comes with a real face and a real result. Those are worth ten anonymous ones.
Do something for your community that you actually care about: a charity drive, a free service for someone in need, sponsoring a family. Do it because you want to.
Then submit the story to your local news. Most outlets have an online form. They are always looking for a good local story, and that write-up usually links back to you.
Some of these steps need you, and some need someone who loves this stuff. That is us. We can take any piece of this, or the whole thing, for small businesses across the Triangle.

Straight out of Google Search Console for a real Peak City client. Ongoing local SEO doesn't move overnight, but it compounds. The Chamber listing, the buyer pages, the citations, and the reviews all keep working month over month.
The Boost above is a one-time setup. But real local SEO compounds. The Chamber listing, the buyer pages, the reviews all build on each other over months and years, and results usually start showing up around the 3 to 6 month mark.
Below are our monthly options for keeping the playbook running and growing. Month to month. No long-term contracts.
For businesses whose site is in decent shape. We keep the on-page content current and add new local SEO pages every quarter.
For businesses ready to make local search their main channel. You run the business. We run everything online.
The full plan, done for you. Twice the fresh content, press releases in your back pocket, and a direct text line to Matt.
Pricing and services are unique for each business. What a car dealership may need isn't what a gym owner would need. We put together a custom plan that fits you and your budget.
Same client, zoomed into individual search terms. "Used cars near me" went from zero clicks a year ago to 40 in the last six months. "Lakeside auto exchange" jumped from 59 to 321.
Those searches were already happening. What changed is that a Peak City page now ranks for them, because we built pages that answered exactly what those searchers were asking.
The Boost is a one-time setup that gets the foundation in place: Google Business Profile, service and product pages, citations, and the core on-page work. The ongoing packages pick up from there with new local SEO pages, fresh content, and monthly maintenance. Most small businesses start with the Boost, see what shifts, and then move into a monthly package once we know exactly what to focus on.
Expect first movement around 3 to 6 months. The bigger changes happen at 12 months and beyond. Local SEO compounds: the Chamber listing, the sponsorship link, and the page we wrote in month two are all still working for you in year three.
We are willing to work with what you have so long as you are happy with your website. In many cases, the custom sites we build have real advantages over a template-based site when it comes to local SEO (faster load times, cleaner markup, no plugin bloat). But the answer is unique for each small business, and we will tell you honestly if your current site is holding you back.
Yes. Move up when you want to grow faster, dial back when things are steady, or step away entirely. Month to month, no contracts, no cancellation fees.
Yes. The whole plan is above and nothing on it is a secret. Most small business owners never get to it because they are busy running the business. If that is you, that is where we come in.
Any piece of the list, or the whole thing. Month to month, no contracts. Local, husband-and-wife team, been at this since 2009.
Serving Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Holly Springs & the Triangle since 2009
